According to the creator of one of the greatest political dramas of all time, The West Wing, real life politics has become so absurd that if he wrote it, nobody would find it believable.

In an interview with Digital Spy, Aaron Sorkin was asked what The West Wing would be like with Donald Trump on it.

"I would create that Donald Trump-esque character, but I would have to make some adjustments to the character to make it believable," he said. "If I just did Trump as Trump, no-one would buy that as a believable character."

He went on to say that if there was a Trump equivalent on The West Wing, a character would tear him apart. Then, critics would complain that Sorkin was going after a straw man. But no, our actual political landscape has become as ridiculous as an exaggerated caricature Sorkin might dream up.

"I think that if the characters on The West Wing were watching a TV show about the characters who are running for President right now, they'd say, 'This is insane! You can't believe this, this is a silly television show, they should get it closer to real life," Sorkin said.

Sorkin's newest movie, Steve Jobs, is now playing in theaters, although it has not been doing well at the box office.
