Emma Stone will reportedly star in Love May Fail, an adaptation of the book by Silver Linings Playbook novelist Matthew Quick.
The project is based at Sony’s TriStar and was previously at Columbia Pictures. According to Deadline, which first reported the casting, Hannah Minghella first developed the project at Columbia, but took it to TriStar when she moved there. Matt Tolmach and Elizabeth Cantillon are producing.
Love May Fail is about a woman who is coming off a divorce from her cheating husband. She returns home and tries to help her old English teacher, who is embroiled in a classroom scandal.
There is still no director attached and Stone is the only star so far.
Stone has a long relationship at Sony, since she has worked with Tolmach on Zombieland, Superbad and the two Amazing Spider-Man movies. She is coming off her first Oscar nomination for last year’s Birdman and starred in Woody Allen’s Irrational Man and Aloha this summer.
Stone’s next films are The Croods 2 and La La Land with Ryan Gosling. She recently dropped out of one of the Billie Jean King movies in development.
