Police in Florida opened up an animal cruelty investigation against a woman who posted a picture of her dog on Facebook with duct-tape around its mouth.

Katie Brown posted a photo of her dog Friday morning with the captions, NBC News reports. "This is what happens when you dont shut up!!!" Brown wrote in the caption.

Brown's Facebook page shows she is a South Daytona resident who attended Central Connecticut State University, so the South Daytona Police Department immediately launched an investigation.

As of Saturday afternoon, Brown's photo had been shared over 238,000 times by outraged Facebook users demanding action be taken against the animal's owner.

NBC News reports that the city of South Daytona released a statement Saturday morning regarding the condition of the dog. The city said that it has "information to indicate that the dog is OK at this time" and later thanked the public for their concern.

South Daytona isn't the only police department working this case. Due to Brown's ties to Connecticut, the Avon Police Department is also receiving phone calls demanding action be taken against Brown.

A spokesperson for the Avon Police Department has said that the situation "is causing a serious strain on our dispatch center," according to CBS News

Brown couldn't be reached for a comment. However, she later posted on Facebook, "Dont panic everyone it was only for a minute but hasnt barked since... POINT MADE!!!"
