In a world where DVRs and streaming shows is dominating the TV market, it leaves networks to make adjustments to their current plans. That is exactly what Fox has done.
According to The New York Times, Fox will no longer release the same day or live TV ratings. They are the first network to do this and they are showing how the ratings game is continuing to change.
The same day and live ratings can still be found because Fox still has to release the information to Nielson.
“The connections between viewers and our shows today are more complex and, in many ways, deeper than ever – but they no longer only happen overnight,” Gary Newman and Dana Walden, co-chief executives of Fox Television Group, said.
One exception is live events, such as sports, for which they said they would continue to acknowledge the overnight ratings, Variety reports. That makes sense because sports is supposed to be watched live. It encourages viewers to watch it live because once the game ends the highlights are all over the place.
As the times keep on changing so do the networks. Fox may be the first to drop the same day ratings but it most likely won’t be the last.
