Harrison Ford has always had a rocky relationship with Han Solo, the smuggler he played in the Star Wars films and is playing again in The Force Awakens. But he’s starting to warm up to the character and had some advice for whoever has to play the younger version of Han.
The Force Awakens is the focus of Entertainment Weekly’s latest issue and the magazine sat down with Ford. He has been the most visible of the Original Trilogy stars lately, since Han has appeared in almost all of The Force Awakens’ trailers.
But Ford will soon see the first Star Wars film with another actor playing Han because Disney is developing a young Han movie for 2018. Ford told EW that Lucasfilm hasn’t talked to him about that movie, but he does have some advice for whoever gets the part.
“I would say, ‘Talk to your director. Watch the movies. And welcome aboard. Make it your own,’” Ford said.
The actor said he isn’t too concerned about passing the Millennium Falcon over to another actor because he’s got more important things to care about.
“I got other things to worry about. I got shoes at the cobbler that need to get picked up. I got to go get a bike fixed,” he said. “You know, I got a lot of things to think about.”
While Ford and Han haven’t always gotten along, Ford has always love his other famous character, Indiana Jones. Even at 73, Ford still wants to play the character again.
“Oh, yeah. Yeah, I’d love to do another Indiana Jones,” Ford said. “A character that has a history and a potential, kind of a rollicking good movie ride for the audience, Steven Spielberg as a director — what’s not to like?”
The Force Awakens opens on Dec. 18.
