The 2015 awards season kicked off last night, even though you weren’t able to watch it. The Hollywood Film Awards were handed out, with many of the films honored not being widely released or even seen by audiences.
The 19th annual ceremony was hosted by The Late Late Show’s James Corden, although it was not broadcast. Last year’s ceremony did air on CBS, but the network opted not to do it this year. Still, the show has been dubbed the start of the awards season, coming four months before the Oscars.
Will Smith picked up the Hollywood Actor Award for Concussion, which doesn’t hit theaters until Dec. 25. Tom Hooper’s The Danish Girl, which opens on Nov. 27, picked up Director (Hooper) and Breakout Actress for Alicia Vikander. Composer Alexandre Desplat was honored for his work in The Danish Girl and Suffragette.
Another film that hasn’t been seen by anyone that was honored was Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight. The film doesn’t open until Christmas Day and doesn’t go wide until Jan. 8. But the Western still won the Hollywood Ensemble Award.
Just to make sure Vin Diesel’s prediction that Furious 7 will win big awards, the film picked up the Hollywood Blockbuster Award. The song “See You Again” also won the Hollywood Song Award.
