Justin Bieber has revealed he doesn’t have a relationship with his mom, Patti Mallette, anymore despite being extremely close in the past.
Mallette expressed she was disappointed in her son during the period of time he strayed far off course, and in turn, the “Sorry” singer is embarrassed. He said their relationship is "pretty non-existing."
“I was distant because I was ashamed,” he told Billboard. “I never wanted my mom to be disappointed in me and I knew she was.”
He also admitted, “We spent some time not talking, so it takes time to rebuild that trust,” adding, “She’s living in Hawaii now, so it’s hard, but getting better. She’s an amazing woman and I love her.”
Bieber also discussed his relationship with his dad, Jeremy Bieber, which is currently strong. He cleared up misinformation that he was estranged from his dad until he became famous, saying his dad took off for about a year during his childhood.
“He was immature,” he said about his then-18 year old dad. “He left for like a year when I was about 4, went to British Columbia, came back on Father’s Day. I remember my mom said, ‘If you’re going to be here, you have to be here.’"
“There’s a misconception that he’s this deadbeat dad, but he has been in my life since. I was with him on weekends and Wednesdays.”
