Folks who went to a new IHOP restaurant in Meridian, Mississippi, over the weekend were quite shocked when they witnessed the parking lot literally cave-in and swallow several cars.

WTOK reported that investigators are now trying to determine what may have caused the massive cave-in that occurred on Saturday evening around 7:15 p.m.

Mississippi News Now noted that patrons inside the eatery said they heard a series of booms just before the power went out and the ground outside opened up and took down at least 12 cars.

The giant cave-in and what many are calling a sinkhole, is about 50 feet wide and almost 600 feet long.

Emergency responders got to the scene to find many of the vehicles already submerged in mud. However, there were no injuries to report.

"We received a call earlier this evening of a sinkhole opening up at the new IHOP restaurant," Meridian Fire Department Chief Battalion Wayne Cook said. "Upon arrival, we found multiple vehicles in the ditch. At this time, we are trying to stabilize this and keep everyone away."

The damage is set to be fully accessed on Monday.
