At the conclusion of Meghan Trainor and Charlie Puth’s American Music Awards performance of “Marvin Gaye,” they unexpectedly started making out. Some of us watching at home assumed they were making some sort of announcement that they’re dating, but that’s not the case.
Trainor and Puth really took the lyrics of their song to heart – “Let’s Marvin Gaye and get it on” – when they kissed for several seconds.
“Before it begins… we are just friends,” Puth tweeted after the show. Trainor also posted a photo to Instagram of Puth’s hand on her backside, writing, “All about dat ass grab doe @charlieputh proud of you Charlie #imsingle.”
Puth and Trainor met last year when Puth told her about his ideas for “Marvin Gaye” and they hit it off right away. But a rep for the singers told EW, “They’re just friends.”
This isn’t the first time they’ve kissed either; they also made out in the music video for their song.
