Nick Lachey could become a very rich man if voters in Ohio pass the legalization of marijuana on Tuesday.
If it passes, Lachey and those in his investor group ResponsibleOhio will gain exclusive access to grow and sell marijuana in his home state.
Washington Post reports others in the investor group – which is made up of over 20 people – also include designer Nanette Lepore and former NBA star Oscar Robertson.
Each investor put in $4 million to start the campaign, then they put in a total of $10 million to buy the land to potentially grow the marijuana.
If voters pass the amendment of their state constitution, the ResponsibleOhio group will have a monopoly on the state when it comes to marijuana sales, which could see $1 billion in profits across their ten farms each year. Each state-regulated marijuana shop in Ohio would have to buy from one of their farms.
In a statement, Lachey said, “Ohio is my home, and as a resident and local business owner I am proud to be part of a movement that has the potential to create jobs, reinvigorate the local economy and improve the safety of our communities. Passage of this proposal will result in much-needed economic development opportunities across Ohio, and update the state’s position on marijuana in a smart and safe way.”
MarketWatch reports 23 states have legalized medical marijuana so far.
