One Direction is so successful that the group actually paid more in U.K. taxes this year than Facebook, by a long shot.
The group, including the recently departed Zayn Malik, earned £45.4 million in pre-tax profits (around $69.3 million in U.S. dollars), notes The Guardian. Therefore, their company, 1D Media, paid £8.24 million in taxes in the U.K. If you add in paid duties from overseas, that number climbs to £10.5 million.
Meanwhile, Facebook managed to avoid a huge U.K. tax bill, only paying £4,327 for 2014. That’s because the company reported a loss after it had to pay £35 million in bonuses to U.K.-based staff.
One Direction’s tax bill was only a bit less than Starbucks, which paid £11.4 million in taxes.
The group is made up of Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson. Malik left One Direction earlier this year to start a solo career.
Their first Malik-less album, Made in the A.M., was released today. The album includes "Drag Me Down" and "Perfect." It will be their last before they go on an extended break from touring and recording.
