Many One Direction fans might have mixed feelings regarding the fact that the boy band will be taking a hiatus, but should feel some comfort in the idea it'll last only two years.
It was initially indicated that the break would only last a year but Liam Payne explained during an interview with BBC Radio 1's Greg James said that the hiatus would be lasting two years.
"Obviously we're all going to take a break for a bit first and then consider where we are in the world. Then I just want to write songs. That's been the most fun process out of this, except for touring, the writing of the songs," said Payne. "We're going to come back, so there's something to write for as well, for us and for other people. We haven't really had time to write an album. Writing's not really a job, it's so much fun. We've always had to rush it, so it's going to be nice for the next two years - I'm going to write a few songs and see what happens.''
Payne did add that the band is looking forward to celebrating all that they have accomplished over the past few years but they really haven't had any downtime to do so.
"We have so much to celebrate, the great work our fans have done and how hard we've worked over the years. We haven't really stopped to think or look at all the different things we've achieved."
It was previously reported that their break would start in March of 2016 and this would allow the members to focus on solo projects.
