Two Paris film premieres have been cancelled in the wake of the shocking terror attacks on the city Friday night. Natalie Portman’s Jane Got A Gun and Steven Spielberg’s Bridge of Spies were both originally scheduled to have events this weekend.
French distributor Mars Films was supposed to have a press junket on Sunday, with the red-carpet premiere on Monday. However, both events were called off, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed. In addition, Portman has decided not to do any French television interviews at the moment.
Jane Got A Gun is supposed to open on Nov. 25 in France, long before it hits theaters anywhere else, and Mars already released a trailer. The Weinstein Company doesn’t plan on releasing it in the U.S. until February.
20th Century Fox told Deadline that it will not hold a premiere event for Bridge of Spies on Sunday. The Cold War drama, which stars Tom Hanks, is being released by Fox in France.
“In light of the tragedy in Paris, we have cancelled our scheduled film events,” Fox said. “Further, we stand with the people of Paris and our thoughts go out to all those affected by these horrible events.”
Deadline has also reported that the major theater chains in Paris, including Gaumont-Pathe, UGC and MK2 have all closed their theaters for Saturday afternoon. Some theaters, including art houses, did open Saturday morning, but soon closed.
The current estimate of the death toll from the attacks is 128. French President Francois Hollande called it an “act of war” from ISIS.
