Pepsi tried to sell another run of Pepsi Perfect bottles, inspired by Back to the Future Part II, and just like last month, the company couldn’t do it without issues. Pepsi has issued a statement, but fans probably aren’t going to like what it had to say.
The company only make 6,500 bottles, just like in the first run, which cost $20.15 each. You could go to the Pepsi website at 9 a.m. to order one, but many reported on Twitter that the site crashed. #PepsiPerfect was trending on the social media site, but not for a good reason.
Despite the issues, all 6,500 bottles sold out by 9:11 a.m., according to a Tweet from the company.
Pepsi sent a statement to the Wall Street Journal, blaming the issues on “overwhelming demand and consumer traffic.” The company said it has no plans to do a third run.
The first run of Pepsi Perfect bottles were available on Oct. 21, since that was the day that Marty and Doc went to in the 1989 film. Several other companies got in on the fun, with USA Today even publishing the front page seen in the movie.
