Rachel Dolezal reminded everyone of her existence on The Real Monday, months after she went viral when it was revealed that she lied about being African-American. She finally broke down and admitted that she was born white, but still insisted on identifying as black.

Dolezal’s story went viral in June when her parents told the media in Washington State that she is white. She later resigned from her leadership position in the Spokane NAACP chapter. Even after resigning, she told the Today Show’s Matt Lauer that, “I identify as black.”

Since then, Dolezal has stayed out of the public eye, although she did tell Vanity Fair in July that she never mislead people. Even on The Real Monday, she said she doesn’t think she deceived anyone.

According to Gawker, when Tamera Mowry-Housley asked Dolezal, why she would want to be black, she suggested that “blackness can be defined as philosophical, cultural, biological, you know, it’s a lot of different things to a lot of different people.”

“You weren’t born black, so when you say you are black, it makes it hard for people to understand where you’re coming from,” Jeannie Mai later told Dolezal.

“Right, and that’s why I said, I acknowledge that I was biologically born white to white parents, but I identify as black,” Dolezal replied.

At this point, the audience applauded.
