Reese Witherspoon is not afraid of a little girl power, and does not think her audience is either.
The Oscar winner talked about starring in and producing movies with strong female characters in an interview with Glamour, after she was named one of the magazine’s women of the year.
"[The characters in my projects] can be flawed, haunted and dynamic women, reflective of the women I see every day in my life... Like Amy Dunne [of Gone Girl]," Witherspoon said. "Exploring female rage on film doesn't frighten me…Women want to see the truth. They don't want to see some perfect girl."
Witherspoon credits her daughter, Ava, 16, with her decision to work on movies with diverse women.
“I felt a responsibility to my daughter and to women in this world to create more opportunities for women,” the Wild star said. “Women of different ethnicities and socioeconomic backgrounds. We're 50 percent of the population.”
Witherspoon recently talked about another one of her iconic female characters, Elle Woods, and what she would be up to in a third Legally Blonde film.
“I think it’d be kind of a cool thing to have her be a Supreme Court justice or someone who runs for office,” Witherspoon said on Fashionably Late with Rachel Zoe in October.
