If Richard Linklater has a new movie coming out, you can bet it will be screened at South By Southwest. The festival announced today that the filmmaker’s next movie, Everybody Wants Some, will open the 2016 event.
The screening will mark the world premiere of the movie, which is set during the 1980s and follows a group of college baseball players on their way to adulthood.
The cast includes Will Brittain, Zoey Deutch, Ryan Anthony Guzman, Tyler Hoechlin, Blake Jenner, Glen Powell and Wyatt Russell. Linklater wrote the film, which was produced by Annapurna’s Megan Ellison with Linklater and Ginger Sledge. Paramount will release the film on April 15, 2016.
Everybody Wants Some is Linklater’s follow-up to Boyhood, which was nominated for Best Picture and Best Director at the Oscars earlier this year. That film was also screened at the 2014 SXSW.
Linklater is a five-time Oscar nominee and a Texas native. He founded the Austin Film Society in 1985.
SXSW 2016 runs from March 11-20 in Austin.
