Rob Lowe is standing up for himself after fans called out his response to the Paris attacks on Nov. 13. The actor originally tweeted his support for Paris.

“Vive La France #Paris,” Lowe wrote after the attack, which has killed at least 128 people and left over 200 injured.

Then, Lowe criticized France’s president François Hollande’s speech that declared the country was in a state of emergency.

“Oh, NOW France closes its borders #Hollande,” the actor wrote about France’s immigration policy.

“This is either the worst translation of an important speech ever, or one of the worst ever given #Hollande,” Lowe added.

According to Daily Mail, people were not happy with Lowe’s tweets and one of his fans called it “the worst tweet of all time.”

Lowe is now defending his choice to speak out on social media. “Wow. For you trolls out there, the phrase 'Vive La France' is the traditional expression of SUPPORT for France. Don't misinterpret my words,” Lowe wrote.

Other stars like Madonna are also responding to the Paris attacks. The singer gave an emotional speech during her show in Sweden.
