The first trailer for Spike Lee’s newest controversial movie, Chi-raq, is here. The film, which will be available to stream through Amazon, opens in December.
The trailer was posted on IMDb and features Samuel L. Jackson as a narrator, guiding audiences through the story. It is an adaptation of the ancient Greek play Lysistrata by Aristophanes. Teyonah Parris plays Lysistrata, who gathers a group of women to stand against the violence in Chicago after a child is killed by a stray bullet.
Chi-raq gets its title from a nickname given to Chicago, due to the ongoing violence in the city. Lee was widely criticized for the title in Chicago and he was forced to defend it during a press conference in May.
Amazon is planning to release the film online and will release it to theaters on Dec. 4.
Other members of the cast include Wesley Snipes, Nick Cannon, Jennifer Hudson, La La Anthony, Angela Bassett and Dave Chappelle.
