The Palm Springs International Film Festival has announced two award winners for the January event. Cate Blanchett and Saoirse Ronan will have more hardware to add to their collections.

The festival announced last week that Blanchett will receive the Desert Palm Achievement Award thanks to her roles in Carol and Truth. Her performance in Todd Haynes’ Carol is expected to earn her another Oscar nomination and possibly even her third Oscar win.

Festival Chairman Harold Matzner said in a statement to the Los Angeles Times that Ronan will receive the International Star Award, in part because of her stellar work in Brooklyn and to recognize her growth in the industry.

“From her unforgettable roles in Atonement, The Lovely Bones, Hanna and The Grand Budapest Hotel, we have seen Saoirse Ronan grow from a young girl to the accomplished actress she is today,” Matzner said.

Ronan has been out promoting Brooklyn, which is just starting its theatrical run. She attended the Savannah Film Festival last month and you can check out her discussion right here.

The 27th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival runs from Jan. 1-11. The awards gala is set for Jan. 2 at the Palm Springs Convention Center.
