Several Walmart stores across the country were evacuated over the busy shopping weekend after calls regarding bomb threats were made.
WMTW noted that the threatening calls were first received around 7:30 p.m. Saturday at various locations in Maine. Some stores in the counties of Somerset, Knox, York and Cumberland were then evacuated.
After clearing the shoppers out of the stores, bomb sniffing dogs were brought in, but no explosive devices were found.
“Given that eight other stores were called and the nature of the call, we are pretty confident it was a crank call,” police in the state said. “They all came in about the same time frame.”
Authorities are now trying to track down who made the calls. Reports have indicated that the voice sounded to be male, however, it was computer generated so they are not positive on that yet.
Maine was not alone in receiving such threats this past weekend. WGME reported that several other states including New York, Louisiana, Mississippi, Wyoming and Idaho also got calls of a bomb threat.
A spokesman for Walmart said company stores receive calls like this just about every year around the Black Friday rush.
