Authorities are responding to reports of an active shooter near a Planned Parenthood in Colorado Springs that has placed the facility on lockdown.

NBC News noted that reports of the “active shooter” at the clinic were posted on social media around 11:50 a.m. local time Friday morning. The El Paso County Sheriff's Office was assisting the Colorado Springs police in responding to the scene.

KKTV-TV noted that least three police officers were shot. The extent of their injuries remain unclear at this time and the area is still not secure.

Law enforcement offcials said the reports indicated that there was just one shooter in the area, but because of the ongoing situation media should not set up in the vicinity.

Employees are patrons in nearby stores were also asked to shelter in place until the area is deemed safe.

The Planned Parenthood is housed inside a building which is adjacent to a medical services building.
