Girl Scouts cookies will see a price jump of about $1 this year, with the iconic cookies now costing $5. This is the first price increase in eight years for a Massachusetts chapter.

The reason for the increase in price of our beloved cookies like Thin Mints and Samoas are due to the Girl Scouts not earning enough profits from their sales.

Jan Goldstein, the chief marketing officer for Girls Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts, told CNBC, "The No. 1 factor was us hearing feedback from adult volunteers that girls had such a great experience selling cookies, but they weren't earning enough money from them.”

With this price increase from certain chapters, the girls will earn 90 cents per box they sell rather than 62 cents.

However, there are only a handful of Girl Scouts chapters increasing their prices to $5. In addition to Goldstein’s Eastern Massachusetts chapter, two chapters in California will increase their prices and one in Hawaii will increase as well.

The Los Angeles area Girl Scouts even outlined all of the ways their price hike will help benefit the organization, citing all of the areas the financial gain will help their troops.
