Lawrence Kasdan, who has an accomplished career as a writer/director himself, has reportedly said that he’s worked on his last Star Wars movie. He is currently working on the stand-alone young Han Solo movie.
In an interview with the German newspaper Bild, Kasdan said that he has had enough with Star Wars after working on four films in the universe.
Kasdan worked on the scripts for The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, then returned to the franchise to co-write The Force Awakens with J.J. Abrams after Michael Arndt left. Disney announced in July that Kasdan and his son, Jon Kasdan, are writing the script to the 2018 Han Solo movie Chris Miller and Phil Lord will direct.
“I did four Star Wars movies. That’s more than enough,” Kasdan told Bild, according to a translation from The Super Naughts. “I want to work as [a] director again.”
Outside of the Star Wars saga, Kasdan is known as the writer/director behind The Big Chill, The Accidental Tourist and Silverado. His last film as director was the box office flop Darling Companion, which came out in 2012.
The Force Awakens opens on Dec. 18 and the Han Solo movie is scheduled for May 2018.
