Steven Tyler, frontman of classic rock band Aerosmith, recently announced the launch of a new philanthropic initiative to raise awareness of young women that have suffered from neglect and sexual abuse.
Janie’s Fund, who partnered with Youth Villages, aims to provide funding and bring attention to those affected by the trauma of sexual abuse.
“As a father and grandfather, I want to focus my energy on things that really matter and leave behind something else in this crazy world along with my music,” Tyler said in a comment. “I am starting Janie’s Fund to give a voice to the millions of victims who haven’t had one and encourage everyone to join me on this mission.”
As a symbol of his strong commitment to Janie’s Fund, Tyler sent out packages to Bono, Miley Cyrus, Sir Elton John and Howard Stern, among other A-list names, containing exact replicas of Tyler’s trademark bejeweled microphone, signature mic stand and hand sewn scarves as well as a handwritten note from Tyler reading, “I may have a bit mouth, but now I need your voice.”
The sweet emotions of this initiative run for 54 days from November 8, the 26th anniversary of the 1989 release of “Janie’s Got a Gun,” through to the end of year, allowing signees to become a Founding Member and receive limited-emotion merchandise through the fund’s Prizeo site.
“Over the years, I’ve been overwhelmed by the thousands of fans who have sent me letter, telling me their stories and how ‘Janie’s Got a Gun’ affected and inspired them,” Tyler wrote on the Janie's Fund website. “We can’t undo what’s been done by abuse in this country, but we can let these girls know they are loved, get them the help they need and assure them that there is much light at the end of the tunnel.”
Founding Members are entered to win a chance for the “Ultimate VIP Rock Experience with Steven Tyler” prize, which includes a walk down the red carpet, VIP backstage passes and more.
