Target has announced they’re closing 13 stores nationwide, which will officially happen on Jan. 30, 2016. The reason for some stores being chosen to close is due to financial decline within the company.
The list of stores preparing to close early next year are as follows:
Austin North East in Austin, Texas
Suncoast Pasco County in Odessa, Florida
Casa Grande, Arizona
Victorville, California
East Flint in Flint, Michigan
Columbus Southwest in Columbus, Ohio
Northridge in Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Superior, Wisconsin
Springfield, Ohio
New Ulm, Minnesota
Ottumwa, Iowa
Anderson, Indiana
Dixie Highway in Louisville, Kentucky
In a statement, Target said, "The decision to close a Target store is not made lightly. We typically decide to close a store after careful consideration of the long-term financial performance of a particular location," CBS reports.
The spokeswoman added, "All eligible Target store team members are being offered the option to transfer to other Target stores.”
The start of the decrease in profitability stems from the 2013 security breach scandal that affected 40 million credit cards. The breach began on Black Friday and went through Dec. 15.
In Jan. 2014, Target laid of 475 workers and eliminated 700 open positions. Earlier this year, the retailer closed all of their Canadian stores.
