'The Mummy' is getting a reboot, and whether audiences want it or not, at least they are eyeing a major Hollywood star.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Universal is talking to Tom Cruise to star in the reboot of 'The Mummy' which came out in 1999. The reboot will take place in the modern day and will be directed by Alex Kurtzman.
Cruise is one of the most talked about start is Hollywood and bringing him onto the project will put a jump start into Universals cinematic universe that they want to start with classic movie monsters.
According to The Guardian, Universal Pictures brought on Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan this past summer to develop a universe out of the studio’s library of classic monster movies. The Mummy is the first on the list and as we previously reported, Angelina Jolie may play the bride of Frankenstein.
'The Mummy' will begin shooting in February. Cruise will then return to the 'Mission: Impossible' franchise for the sixth installment. Other Cruise films include 'Jack Reacher: Never Go Back' and 'Mena.'
'The Mummy' is scheduled for a March 24, 2017 release.
