Powerful winds have been swirling through the Western U.S. and are to blame for a tornado in Central California.

A cold front, which pushed through the state, spawned the tornado in the town of Denair on Sunday. It caused damage to homes and knocked out power there.

The wind gusts of more than 60 mph near the Los Angeles and San Diego area were also caused by the colder air. According to the National Weather Service, the winds will likely continue throughout the day on Monday.

Forecasters said that winds in Carlsbad just reached 60 mph, but in Mount Laguna got up to about 62 mph.

Also in the West the Associated Press reported that Clark County, which encompasses Las Vegas, Mount Charleston and Red Rock Canyon, is in a wind advisory until 10 p.m. this evening. The winds could make for some difficult driving conditions in those areas so motorists are asked to use caution when traveling on the roadways.
