Authorities said that without warning a tourist was stabbed in front of the TCL Chinese Theatre on the Hollywood Walk of Fame Wednesday.
The Los Angeles Times reported that the victim injured in the stabbing is a Russian tourists in his 20s, who was sightseeing with his family when the unprovoked attack occurred around 1:10 p.m.
ABC News noted it just so happened that two NYPD detectives were also in the area on police business and rushed to see what the commotion was. The eight-year partners were in plain clothes but had their firearms and badges on them.
Detectives Albert Ramos and Dan Mulligan quickly got the knife away from the Donald Offerman, 54, and arrested him. He is being held on suspicion of attempted murder and $100,000 bail.
The victim was transported to a local hospital and is expected to survive.
A large number of tourists visit the famed theater daily and this is not the first time an out-of-towner has been stabbed there. In 2013, a 23-year-old woman was fatally stabbed after she did not pay panhandlers $1 for a photo.
