Zebras, yes Zebras, ran amok through traffic in Philadelphia on Sunday and surprised onlookers captured the sight on video.

It’s not every day that Philadelphians see wild Zebras running through the streets, but as WPVI noted, a pair got loose from the UniverSoul Circus Sunday on its final day in town.

The animals were spotted running through a parking lot and then along a busy city street before they were safely captured by police officers, who later had some fun discussing the incident.

However, many animal activists had been protesting outside the circus over the past few days and were not amused.

And after the incident, PETA released the following statement:

Yet again, animals have escaped a circus and been chased through a city they never should have been taken to in the first place. UniverSoul needs to retire its animal acts immediately, and all kind families should refuse to buy a ticket to any circus that exploits animals. PETA is asking the U.S. Department of Agriculture to investigate immediately to ensure that the animals are receiving veterinary care and have safe and proper enclosures.
