Ant-Man was essentially a heist film set within the Marvel universe, but, according to director Peyton Reed, the sequel will be something completely different.

In a new interview with ComicBookResources, Reed revealed that we should expect Ant-Man and the Wasp to not simply recreate the success of the original.

"I think there's probably going to be some aspects that maybe call back to the tone of [the first movie], but for Ant-Man and the Wasp, we have an entirely different template,” Reed said. “We know what that template is, and we have an entirely different genre template for that movie."

Reed also teased the fact that the relationship between the Wasp and Ant-Man will be the first real partnership in the Marvel universe, and he's excited to see that dynamic play out on screen. As should be clear from the title, this upcoming film will heavily feature the Wasp, played by Evangeline Lilly. Reed also said there's a possibility of seeing Janet van Dyne, the wife of Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) who may or may not have survived her journey to the Quantum Realm.

Ant-Man and the Wasp will be directed by Reed. Paul Rudd is expected to co-write the screenplay, but it's unclear if Adam McKay will be able to fit the movie into his schedule. Rudd, Lilly and Michael Douglas will all reprise their roles.

Ant-Man and the Wasp will hit theaters on July 5, 2018.
