Chris Brown did not appear on last night's episode of The Daily Show following reports of staff complaints.
Brown was scheduled for an interview on the Dec. 1 episode of the Trevor Noah comedy series, but according to The Daily Beast, booking the recording artist was a very controversial decision around the Comedy Central offices. Several Daily Show staffers supposedly did not want to host Brown due to his history of domestic abuse.
Noah reportedly planned to discuss domestic violence in his interview, a subject he himself is intimately familiar with. The South-African comedian's ex-stepfather was abusive towards the family, at one point shooting Noah's mother and leaving her for dead. Thankfully, she survived the attack.
This cancellation was apparently last minute enough that TV guides still listed Brown as a guest when the 11 p.m. broadcast began. There is no official word on if Brown did not appear due to these staff concerns, as Noah instead interviewed Nick Cannon on Tuesday's episode with no explanation of the change.
A spokesperson for Comedy Central told The Washington Post that they hope to reschedule Brown for a future appearance.
This hasn't been a great week for Brown: his tour dates in Australia and New Zealand have also been cancelled, as his visa was denied due to his criminal history.
