Comedian David Letterman still has a few pieces of memorabilia to donate to his alma mater, Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. Letterman and the university announced last night that he will donate some pieces to the university.
Letterman hosted an event at Ball State Monday night, where he chatted with Foxcatcher director Bennett Miller and Her director Spike Jonze. During the event, he announced his plans to make a donation.
“In his return home tonight, we all celebrate his national legacy as well as a new chapter of this storied relationship between Ball State University and David Letterman,” Ball State President Paul W. Ferguson said. “Important to both Dave and Ball State is his continuing legacy for Ball State students, who will learn from his example and impact on the entertainment and broadcast industry.”
Ferguson said that Letterman donated all of the honors he received for his run on CBS’ Late Show, including his Emmys. Parts of the Late Show set will also be included as part of The David Letterman Experience at the university’s Letterman Building.
“I’m so lucky to have been invited back. I want to thank everybody here, everybody on campus and the people who run this university,” Letterman said Monday. “It’s an honor to maintain this association, so thank you very much, ladies and gentlemen.”
Letterman retired from The Late Show in May and was replaced by Stephen Colbert.
