All three of the main Orlando area theme parks - Walt Disney World, Universal Studios and SeaWorld - have installed metal detectors. The move comes as fears of terrorism and gun violence are on the rise among Americans.

The news was first reported by the Orlando Sentinel, which noted that Disney did not say how long their metal detectors were out. SeaWorld said it is part of an effort to increase security during the holidays and Universal said it was only testing them.

Disney World has also stopped selling toy guns and will ban anyone over the age of 14 from dressing in costumes. The Disney Springs movie theater will also have a metal detector, just as the theater hosts an event for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

“We continually review our comprehensive approach to security and are implementing additional security measures, as appropriate,” Disney told the Sentinel.

Metal detectors are also being used at Disneyland and Universal Studios Hollywood in California.

The decision comes just days after the attack in San Bernardino, California and weeks after the attacks in Paris.

The Department of Homeland Security has also began a new system of bulletins for the public. Although the department said that there are no specific threats to the U.S. that they have identified this year, they are “especially concerned that terrorist-inspired individuals and homegrown violent extremists may be encouraged or inspired to target public events or places.”
