Ex-Subway pitchman Jared Fogle is appealing the prison sentence he received after he was convicted of child pornography and sex crime charges last month.
The Associated Press noted that Fogle’s attorney, Ron Elberger, filed a notice to appeal in U.S. District Court in Indianapolis earlier this week. Elberger said that his client would be appealing the prison sentence imposed on him, but did not give further details.
As we previously reported, Fogle plead guilty to possessing child pornography and having sex with minors in August. Prosecutors were seeking a sentence of 12.5 years behind bars, but Judge Tanya Walton Pratt handed down an even harsher sentence and gave Fogle a 15-year prison sentence and lifetime supervision following his release.
That sentence therefore gave him grounds to appeal.
The 38-year-old Fogle admitted to engaging in and paying for sex with girls as young as 16 and receiving child pornography from Russell Taylor, who was the former director of The Jared Foundation. Some of the girls in the photos and videos Taylor produced were as young as 12.
Taylor has since been sentenced to 27 years in prison.
