Amazon Studios is going “Truckin.’” A series about The Grateful Dead is in the works, with founding bandmember Bob Weir signing on as an executive producer.
The limited series will be based on Home Before Daylight: My Live on the Road with the Grateful Dead, a 2003 memoir by roadie Steve Parish, reports The Hollywood Reporter. A writer has not been hired.
According to Variety, Weir will also oversee the use of music in the series. Parish, Stephen Emery, Bernie Cahill and ROAR are also executive producers.
The Dead started in 1965 in the San Francisco music scene. Although Jerry Garcia died in 1995, members of the group continued touring together. All of the surviving members got together in June and July for the Fare Thee Well shows to celebrate the group’s 50th anniversary. It’s the last time they ever plan on performing together.
