Hasbro is getting in on the cinematic universe craze by developing a new series of interconnected movies based on their toys.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hasbro is working with Paramount to develop a cinematic universe based on five popular 1980s toy lines and cartoons: G.I. Joe, Micronauts, Visionaries, M.A.S.K. and ROM.
"Paramount and Hasbro have had a longstanding relationship and we're proud of the success we've enjoyed on the Transformers and G.I. Joe franchises,” said Paramount chairman and CEO Brad Grey. "We're excited to grow our agreement and make even more movies based upon these popular and powerful Hasbro characters and their worlds."
Paramount and Hasbro are currently assembling a writers room for the new movies, which will be produced by Hasbro's film studio Allspark Pictures.
M.A.S.K. (Mobile Armored Strike Komman) and Visionaries has previously been adapted into cartoon shows, but never has there been a film version. G.I. Joe has already received two films, the most recent being G.I. Joe: Retaliation in 2013. A third movie has already been announced, but it's unclear if Paramount plans to reboot the franchise again with this deal.
This cinematic universe seems to not be connected to the upcoming Transformers cinematic universe also being developed by Paramount.
