A Porsche that the late rock singer Janis Joplin drove was among the highlights of a Sotheby’s collectible car auction on Thursday night in New York.

The RM Sotheby’s Driven By Disruption sale attracted plenty of collectors who had no spending limits. The psychedelic 1964 Porsche 365C Cabriolet was only expected to sell for at least $400,000, but wound up going for $1.76 million.

But that was hardly one of the big sellers. As CNN notes, a 1962 Aston Martin DB4GT Zagato sold for $14.3 million, the highest price ever paid for a British car at auction.

The big ticket item was a 1956 Ferrari 290 MM by Scaglietti, which was built for racing legend Juan Manuel Fangio. The car sold for $28 million, which was what Sotheby’s expected.

The Porsche Joplin owned was previously on display at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, notes Rolling Stone. Joplin bought it used in 1968 and owned it until her death in October 1970.

Joplin, who was only 27 when she died, is the subject of the new Amy Berg documentary Janis: Little Girl Blue.
