Country music star Keith Urban announced Sunday that his father, Robert Urban, died on Saturday. It was only last week that Urban revealed that his father was in hospice care.

Urban sent a statement to People Magazine, adding that he and his wife, actress Nicole Kidman, have been touched by the support they have received since Saturday.

“I've been deeply touched by the outpouring of love and support that [Nicole Kidman] and I, and our family, have received since my Dad’s passing on Saturday night,” Urban said. “His long battle with cancer is now over and he is finally at peace. My dad's love of country music and America set me on my life's journey, and shaped so much of who I am today.”

Urban thanked his fans for their thoughts and prayers.

It was just last week that Urban revealed that Robert Urban was receiving hospice care and only had days to live.

“This has all come at a very strange time where it’s typical of a career that has extreme highs and extreme lows all often at the exact same time,” Urban told the Tennessean while visiting his new exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. “So (the exhibit) is bittersweet a little bit because (my dad) is the catalyst for all of this. My dad is the catalyst for me living in America.”

Kidman also lost her father recently. Her father died in September 2014, during a visit to Singapore.

The Australian-born singer is currently a judge on American Idol, which will start its final season next month.
