Chances are that most who are reading this right now, who have long hair, are wearing a hair tie on their wrist. However, your views on doing this in the future might change after reading this.
A woman in Kentucky named Audree Kopp actually had to get surgery because of infections on her wrist, which were caused by a glittery hair tie she often wore.
"I didn't believe it at first, I thought that it was a spider bite, or something else, not from wearing hair-ties,” said Kopp.
She told WKLY she noticed a red bump on her wrist and it “just kept getting bigger and redder and worse.” When antibiotics weren't helping, she was told she needed surgery.
"Thank God I caught it in time, or I could have had sepsis," she explained.
Her doctor, Dr. Amit Gupta, said bacteria from the hair tie she was wearing got under her skin, which caused three kinds of infections to grow. Dr. Gupta had to drain the puss by way of an incision.
