Kurt Russell is reportedly being considered to play Star Lord/Peter Quill’s father in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

This news comes from TheWrap, which notes that Russell hasn’t even read the script. Russell also hasn’t met with Marvel, but the meetings are expected to take place soon.

Russell is in the middle of a nice career revival, as he stars in Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight and was in Furious 7, which co-starred the voice of Groot, Vin Diesel. He also starred in the well-reviewed Western Bone Tomahawk.

Director/co-writer James Gunn is already hard at work on Guardians 2, which did recently add Pom Klementieff (Spike Lee’s Oldboy) for an unknown role.

The original Guardians of the Galaxy was a surprise box office smash, earning great reviews and $774 million worldwide. The new film, which will again feature Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana, opens on May 5, 2017.

As for Russell, you can see him in The Hateful Eight on Christmas Day if you live near a theater that spent money on a 70mm projector, or on Dec. 31, when the digital print is released. He’s still best known for his work with John Carpenter, including Escape from New York and Big Trouble in Little China.
