Morgan Freeman suffered no injuries following a private plane crash in Mississippi. The private aircraft blew a tire shortly after takeoff during flight and was forced to make an emergency landing. Freeman was on board the flight in route to Texas to film for a segment of The Story of God which airs on National Geographic.
According to Fox News, Clarksdale Mayor Bill Luckett, a good friend of Freeman's, described the situation as a controlled forced landing. The emergency landing took place just before dark on Saturday in Tunica. The plan had taken off from Clarksdale.
The Associated Press reported that Tunica County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Randy Stewart said that the plane went off the runway after completing the emergency maneuvers. Stewart confirmed that no injuries had taken place and that Freeman was not flying the plane. An inspector will be looking into the plane Sunday.
Freeman released a statement following the incident. “Sometimes things don’t go as planned and a tire blew on takeoff, which caused other problems, but thanks to my excellent pilot Jimmy Hobson we landed safely without a scratch," said Freeman. "I cannot say the same about my plane. I appreciate the concern and prayers for our safety.”
