The North American box office was powered this year by nostalgia, with two franchises making their triumphant returns and bringing the total to a record $11 billion.

Rentrak confirmed to Deadline that the box office will hit $11.1 billion by Thursday night. That will make 2015 the biggest year in box office history for North America.

The likely cause for the record is Universal’s Jurassic World and Disney’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the two highest grossing films of the year.

Jurassic World, the first film in the Jurassic Park series since 2001, grossed $652.3 million in North America alone and hit $1.6 billion worldwide. The Force Awakens, the first live action Star Wars film since 2005, is currently at $571.4 million and $1.16 billion worldwide.

Of course, other films contributed to the incredible year. Disney’s Avengers: Age of Ultron made $459.0 million, while Disney’s Inside Out earned $356.4 million. Universal’s Furious 7 rounded out the Top 5 of the year with $353.0 million.

Universal was the top-grossing studio with $2.4 billion in North America and $6.7 billion worldwide, notes The Hollywood Reporter. Disney finished with $2 billion and $5.7 billion globally. Both studios smashed the previous international box office record, which 20th Century Fox set with $5.5 billion in 2014.
