One Direction brought their career full circle by performing for the last time before their two-year hiatus on the finale of UK's X-Factor.

A picture montage detailing their journey was displayed on the stage's screens as they performed "History," off their most recent album Made in the A.M.

The performance ended with an emotional group hug and some parting words from Liam Payne.

"We've had the most amazing five years, we just want to thank obviously X Factor, Simon, the whole crew you guys have been absolutely amazing, we can't believe what has happened to us," Payne said.

"You know it's sad that we're going away for a little while, but we need it. Just thank you to all the fans who've supported us over the years. I mean you can see how happy we are it's just genuine happiness and it's all because of you guys, so thank you so much," he added.

The boys also posted a farewell video to Twitter and several messages on their individual Twitter accounts.

The band's break has come a bit sooner than anticipated, as they had previously announced their break would begin in March 2016 and would last two years.
