The Mystery Science Theater 3000 reboot has just hired two new writers: the creators of the brilliant animated series Rick and Morty.
The official Mystery Science Theater Kickstarter page has announced the full list of writers for the reboot and they include Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland, creators of the Adult Swim comedy Rick and Morty. Harmon is also known for being the creator of Community, and Roiland has previously worked as a voice actor on Gravity Falls and Adventure Time.
Harmon and Roiland are just two of nine guest writers that have been unveiled. The rest of the list includes Lego Movie 2 director Rob Schrab, Ready Player One author Ernest Cline, The Name of Wind authors Patrick Rothfuss and Robert Lopez, songwriter for Avenue Q, The Book of Mormon and Frozen.
A few contributors to the classic series will be pitching in as well, and Joel Hodgson promised he would be honoring the show's past.
The Mystery Science Theater Kickstarter has raised $4.3 million with 39 hours to go. If the team can get that up to $5.5 million, this will guarantee a full 12 episodes are produced.
The new series will star Patton Oswalt, Felicia Day, Jonah Ray, Hampton Yount and Baron Vaughn, as we've previously reported. The Kickstarter campaign ends on Dec. 12.
