Director/musician Rob Zombie has just finished his new horror movie, which is so extreme that the Motion Picture Association of America has given it an NC-17 rating.
Zombie’s latest film is 31 and it is scheduled to hit theaters on Jan. 23. However, it won’t be widely released if he can’t cut it down to receive an R-rating. The NC-17 is the MPAA’s highest and bars anyone under 17 from seeing it - even if you are accompanied by an adult.
The filmmaker posted the full rating on his Facebook page, noting that the MPAA has given both of his early cuts an NC-17. He wrote that he will try to come up with a third edit to get an R rating.
The reasons for the rating, as described by the MPAA, are “for sadistic graphic violence, bizarre sexuality/nudity, pervasive disturbing images and some strong language.” Wow, maybe if it had more than “some” strong language, the MPAA might have called for a ban of the film altogether.
31 stars Malcolm McDowell, Elizabeth Daily and Meg Foster. Zombie also wrote the script.
As a director, Zombie’s films include House of 1,000 Corpses, The Devil’s Rejects and the 2007 Halloween remake. Over the summer, he was hired to make a movie about Groucho Marx.
Well, after two tries through the MPAA our rating on 31 remains NC-17. Maybe three is the charm to get an R rating. Why...
