Sarah Silverman struck a chord with everyone celebrating Christmas, or at least everyone who follows her on Twitter. The Jewish comedian joked about Jesus Christ being “gender fluid” and opened a whole can of worms.

The I Smile Back star tweeted “Merry Christmas! Jesus was gender fluid” on Christmas day and included five heart emojis. The post has been retweeted 1,200 times and favorited 3,800 times.

However, some people weren’t “favoriting” it and complained about her joke. There were enough complaints that Silverman actually responded with a message last night. She wrote that she was spending Christmas in Wales with her boyfriend, actor Michael Sheen and sent the tweet while they were driving to his sister’s house.

“Decided to add on a word from our collective new vocabulary since, to me, it’s funny, beautiful and true that He is all of us,” Silverman wrote. “The absolute best is when the (adorable) haters write ‘I’d like to see you make fun of Jews!’ Um, hi, have we met??”

Silverman had a pretty good 2015, starring in the indie film I Smile Back. The role earned the former Sarah Silverman Program star a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination.
