Police said Friday that cocaine was found in the room where former Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland was found dead. However, it is not known if his cause of death was related to cocaine use.
Weiland’s death was announced Friday morning on his social media accounts. The 48-year-old died late Thursday night and was discovered in his tour bus. He and his current band, The Wildabouts, were in Bloomington, Minnesota.
The signer’s widow, Jamie Weiland, had reportedly said that Weiland was no longer taking drugs, although musicians told TMZ that he was doing crack cocaine recently.
According to ABC News, Bloomington police said Friday that “a small quantity of suspected controlled substance that field tested positive as cocaine” was found in the tour bus bedroom where Weiland was found. However, “[t]here is no information at this time related to the cause of Weiland’s death,” police said.
There was also cocaine found in the room occupied by another member of the touring party.
While the cause of death has yet to officially be determined, TMZ obtained a 911 call that claimed Weiland died of cardiac arrest.
Since Weiland’s death, the other members of Stone Temple Pilots issued the following statement on their Facebook page.
