The Hennepin County Medical Examiner in Minneapolis has revealed the cause of death for Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland.

The singer died of “an accidental overdose of cocaine, ethanol and methylenedioxyamphetamine (MDA).” Weiland had an extensive history of dealing with drug and alcohol issues for a majority of his life.

In addition to the overdose, it was explained that Weiland's history of cardiovascular disease, asthma and substance dependence also contributed toward his cause of death. A detailed and full toxicology report will not be ready for another month or so. The toxicology report will show how much Weiland had been using in the past few weeks leading up to his death.

Weiland died in his sleep while on a tour stop in Bloomington, Minnesota with his current band, The Wildabouts. It was previously reported that two bags of cocaine, along with a large amount of prescription drugs, were found on the tour bus. His bandmate, Tommy Black, was arrested and charged with fifth degree felony possession of drugs after the police found him with a small quantity of cocaine.

Stone Temple Pilots formed back in 1985 and is most well known for their albums Core and Purple.
