Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ record  box office run didn’t end on Sunday night. The film broke a record on Monday that had been standing for over a decade.

The Force Awakens grossed $40.1 million on Monday, breaking the record Spider-Man 2 set in 2004. That film made $27.6 million on July 5, 2004.

According to Box Office Mojo, the new Star Wars film also became the fastest movie to hit $250 million domestically and has reached $610 million worldwide.

It’s possible that The Force Awakens hits $500 million in North America by the end of the week.

There is some talk in Hollywood that The Force Awakens has a legitimate shot at Avatar’s all-time records based on how fast the J.J. Abrams-directed film is making money. James Cameron’s Avatar still holds the domestic record with $760.5 million and the international record of $2.7 billion.

(It should be noted that, adjusted for inflation, 1939’s Gone with the Wind still holds the all-time domestic record with $1.7 billion. Avatar is actualy 14th on that list.)

The Force Awakens set the opening weekend record with $238 million.
